What... never ever?

First attempt at this new type project... I know not if it's right or wrong, but I quite like it. I don't think I'm exactly breaking new ground with this though, it looks a bit too much like a ransom letter, albeit one made out of beautiful typefaces.

I'm under the bus.

Just something I've been thinking about for a while, after various close run ins with buses, and also of course, the famous Brighton and Hove 'I'm on the bus' campaign... (You can read more about that here) (Oh yeah, and those horrible adverts with the dead children)

Can you spot all the references?

Can you spot all the references? There are 15 in total!
Working progress. I'm aware that this is crudely done, but my photoshop mastery remains limited, as does my patience with the 'lasso' tool, so sorry if this looks like it was done by a six year old with blunt scissors.

Self Promotion...

So, the time has come where I need to think about how I'm going to make myself known in the big wide world. I'm in the process of setting up www.emmacharleston.co.uk (Who knew setting up a website was so complex? And I've got a magical internet pixie doing most of the work for me!)
I also want some print based promotion.
My idea arrived yesterday... I'd always been keen on the idea of producing postcards to send out... but there were various problems...
1) Everyone does it. How are mine going to be different?
2) I really don't actually have that much work that I'm proud enough of to get printed. :(
3) Expensive!

3 has not yet been overcome, but the other two... sort of.
So, originality! My postcards are going to be square, (They'll be printed rectangular, but I'll trim them) and they're going to be black and white. Unfortunately, not going to save any money on the printing, BUT, there is method to my madness. All the images are really strong in black and white... and I'm getting a rubber stamp made up with my details on. This way, I can stamp on the back with a different colour ink every time, and use the same colour envelope, so that each time there's a different and pleasing theme to go along with them. I'm going to send them out in packs of four or five, with a business card chucked in as well... and hopefully... hopefully people will like me! Hm.
I've ordered the rubber stamp already, and I really hope it'll be as awesome as I'm hoping!
These are the images. (There's one more that for some reason won't load.)

Beach Montage

Another maybe idea for those invitations. (I like this, but am not enjoying the invitation project)

Hand drawn type... YAY or nah?

Still working on those book jackets. Not sure how the type should be... wondering if this is the way to go with it, inspired by my other project on the go...

Historical and Cultural Studies Degree Show Invitation Design Ideas. Words galore!

So our task for this Easter holiday is to produce designs for the School of Historical and Critical Studies degree show. I was trying to come up with some sort of CONCEPT, but I decided that for once I was just going to have a bit of fun with this and do something I LIKE. So here goes.
This first one is based around the idea of having a black sort of slip case over the top, which will have one hole cut in it - corresponding to the size of the circles of text. When recieved it would sit level with the top circle, then as the slip case is removed, all the circles would become visible, one by one.

The second idea is just something I like.

Yay for hand drawn type!
